Giovanni e Margherita, lui ingegnere lei regista, si trovano ad affrontare il lento aggravarsi dello stato di salute dell’anziana madre (Giulia Lazzarini), ormai lontana da un possibile recupero. Margherita, sempre più smarrita e impaurita dal dolore, si ritrova a dividersi tra la lavorazione del film con un attore straniero (John Turturro) che complica le riprese, le carenze scolastiche della figlia e i ricordi della madre, che si confondono con paure e dolorosi episodi al suo capezzale. 

Nanni Moretti torna come in passato a parlare di lutto con una voce sempre più intimista e un tono più mesto. Se facilmente ci si emoziona di fronte al dolore provato della solita Margherita Buy di fronte al lento, inesorabile spegnersi della madre, il film non aggiunge nulla di cinematografico e appare fiacco, senza energie, rafforzato solo ad intermittenza da scene davvero riuscite.

Per chi vuole riflettere insieme al regista sulla dolorosa separazione dai genitori: per chi cerca il cinema però, questa settimana è meglio cercare da un’altra parte.

Mia madre uscirà nelle sale il 16 aprile 2015.
