MILANO – Domenica 16 dicembre Sky Arte (canale 120, 400 di Sky) ha dedicato l’intera giornata al più carismatico frontman del rock di sempre, il leader dei Queen Freddie Mercury, chiudendo con l’esclusivo documentario Freddie Mercury – The Great Pretender su Sky Arte. Diretto e prodotto dal regista inglese Rhys Thomas, il film è un omaggio al più grande commediante del rock, alle sue passioni, alla sua vita, ai suoi affetti e alla sua musica. Tra gli artisti più schivi e riservati di sempre, ancora oggi grande parte della vita di Freddie Mercury è avvolta nell’ombra e si sa molto poco della sua parentesi come solista. Freddie Mercury – The Great Pretender percorre questo lato nascosto. Riscopre l’uomo celato dietro il personaggio sul palco. Lo rendono possibile anche le interviste esclusive e di repertorio ad amici e artisti, da Bryan May a Roger Taylor, dai suoi manager John Reid e Jim “Miami” Beach al suo assistente personale Peter Freestone, e molti altri.

Tra i momenti rari del documentario l’esibizione al Royal Ballet di Londra in cui Freddie Mercury canta una straordinaria versione di Bohemian Rhapsody, la canzone del XX secolo più ascoltata in streaming di oggi, che chiude cantando a testa in giù. O ancora una prova in cui Mercury e Montserrat Caballé duettano facendo vocalizzi mentre preparano le registrazioni del loro singolo. Dal Live Aid al fallimento del suo album solista Mr. Bad Guy. Dagli eccessi newyorchesi negli anni ‘80 al ritrovato successo di Innuendo, il film restituisce un collage di emozioni, ricordi e immagini di un artista al di sopra di ogni stereotipo.

Freddie Mercury – The Great Pretender chiude in bellezza il Freddie Mercury Day di Sky Arte, durante il quale sono andati in onda le registrazioni dei grandi live, come Queen Live at the Rainbow registrato al leggendario Rainbow Theatre di Londra nel 1974, tutto esaurito per tre sere consecutive; il Freddie Mercury Tribute lo storico live che, a un anno dalla scomparsa di Mercury, gli dedicarono gli altri membri della band insieme a molti altri artisti leggendari, dai Metallica a David Bowie. Ancora il Queen – Rock Montreal live, o il Queen – A Night at the Opera sui retroscena del popolare album e di alcuni dei più celebri brani della band, a cominciare da Bohemian Rhapsody, fino al memorabile Queen Live at Wembley, di fronte a circa mezzo milione di fan.
