Dopo tre anni necessari a reperire i fondi necessari e a organizzare un film così complesso e ricco di star internazionali, Matteo Garrone presenta a Cannes il suo nuovo, spiazzante film: Il Racconto dei Racconti, un trio di fiabe estratte e rielaborate da uno dei corpus più antichi e noti del genere, Lo Cunto de li Cunti del napoletano Giambattista Basile.
Garrone ha scelto tre storie al femminile, rappresentative di tre età differenti della vita: una giovane principessa sogna un principe e finisce sposa a un terribile orco, una regina sacrifica ciò che le è più caro all’ossessivo desiderio di concepire un figlio e una vecchia popolana inganna il re lussurioso del paese fingendosi una bellissima giovinetta.
È difficile negare le seguenti affermazioni: è ottimamente prodotto e realizzato, ma risulta davvero spiazzante a fine proiezione. Sia per quanti finiscono per amarlo per come restituisce autenticamente la dimensione fiabesca, fatta di ripetizioni, tempi dilatati, creature magiche e svolte crudeli, sia per chi trova sia un passo falso, una concessione a un genere meno nobile delle precedenti storie di degrado e denuncia.
L’unico modo per sapere da quale parte starete stavolta è vedere il film, che uscirà nelle sale il 14 maggio 2015.88
